PDP Calls for Investigation into Alleged Mismanagement of Multi-Billion Naira Road Project by Kebbi Govt
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kebbi has called on Governor Nasir Idris to investigate what it terms the poor execution of the multi-billion naira Yauri township roads project in the state.
In a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday, the party’s Secretary, Alhaji Abubakar Bawa-Kalgo, expressed concern over reports indicating that some roads are already deteriorating just months after completion. He described the situation as “extremely distasteful” and urged the State Ministry of Works to take responsibility for the apparent contractual breaches and to implement corrective measures.
Bawa-Kalgo emphasized the need for the government to hold accountable any officials who fail in their duties, suggesting that such actions would deter future negligence and protect the state’s scarce resources. He lamented that essential projects impacting the lives of ordinary citizens should not be compromised.
“It is shocking that a project of this magnitude could deteriorate so quickly, especially when vigilant residents of Yauri had raised concerns during its commencement,” he said, noting that some drainage systems had already washed away due to rainfall earlier this year.
The PDP’s call aims to ensure that the community receives the quality infrastructure it deserves and to prevent further waste of public funds.
