Diarrhoea Outbreak Hits Kaduna Girls’ School, 81 Students Affected
The Kaduna State Ministry of Health has confirmed a diarrhoea outbreak at the Government Girls Senior and Junior Secondary School, Kawo, impacting 81 students, with 15 requiring hospitalisation.
An investigation led by the Kaduna State Rapid Response Team and the State Epidemiologist, Dr. Jeremiah Diako, revealed that the affected students were primarily aged 16 to 17 years.
The affected students were promptly transferred to the General Hospital, Kawo, for treatment, and all those hospitalised have since been discharged, Dr. Diako reported.
In light of the outbreak, the Ministry of Health has recommended several preventive measures, including strengthening disease reporting, establishing school-based surveillance systems, standardising case referral protocols, and providing training on food safety and waste management.
The ministry underscored the urgency of implementing these measures to safeguard student health and prevent future outbreaks.
