Abuja Metro Rail will operate free for two months – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, announced that the Abuja Light Rail will offer free rides for two months following its launch on May 27, 2024.

This information was shared during the Ministerial Sectoral Update event celebrating the first year of President Bola Tinubu’s administration at Radio House in Abuja on Thursday.

Wike had previously mentioned that President Bola Tinubu would inaugurate the Metro rail project for public use on Monday.

He encouraged residents to start using the Metro rails from May 28 and emphasized that the aim was to improve transportation convenience for residents.

Additionally, he suggested that the President might extend the complimentary train rides for up to six months.

In addition, the Minister announced that the FCT Administration is set to commence building 10,000 cost-effective housing units under the project name Renewed Hope City starting in 2025.

Briefings are anticipated today from the Minister of Youth Development, Jamilo Bio Ibrahim, and the Minister of Transportation, Sa Idu Ahmed Alkali.
