In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike announced the launch of Operation Sweep Abuja Clean to eliminate public nuisances and restore order in the capital.

According to the minister, the operation aims to enforce the Abuja Environmental Protection Act and other relevant laws. He emphasized that the city’s streets are not meant for scavengers, beggars, or individuals involved in crimes such as the notorious “one-chance” syndicates and drug trafficking.

“Our nation’s capital must reflect pride and security—not serve as a haven for criminal elements disguised as beggars or scavengers,” Wike stated.

To implement the directive, a Joint Task Force comprising security agencies and FCT departments has been mobilized to arrest individuals found begging, scavenging, loitering, or engaging in activities that threaten public safety. Arrested individuals will be profiled and handed over to their respective state governments.

The minister reiterated that ensuring the safety of lives and property remains a top priority for the FCTA and called on residents to support the initiative.
