Why Five Southeast States Are in Darkness after National Grid Collapse — EEDC Explains
The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has announced the commencement of gradual power restoration following the collapse of the national grid on Monday, January 23, 2026, at about 12:40 p.m.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the company’s spokesperson, Emeka Ezeh.
According to EEDC, the outage was caused by the national grid failure, which affected electricity supply in parts of Abia (Umuahia), Anambra, Ebonyi, and Imo states.
Ezeh stated that restoration efforts are already underway, adding that the company is collaborating with relevant stakeholders to ensure full and timely restoration of power across the affected areas.
“Gradual restoration of power supply has commenced, and we are working closely with the relevant stakeholders to ensure a smooth and timely restoration across the affected areas,” he said.
Meanwhile, NIGERIA NEWS 247 reports that the Nigerian Independent System Operator had earlier confirmed that electricity supply was being restored in parts of the country following the grid disturbance.
