Wike Vows Action Over Clash with Soldier: “I Can’t Sit and Watch Things Go Wrong”

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has vowed not to remain passive while officials of the FCT Administration are allegedly attacked in the line of duty.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday, Wike was responding to his recent confrontation with a naval officer over a disputed plot of land reportedly linked to a former Chief of Naval Staff.

The Minister criticized the retired naval officer for allegedly deploying active-duty personnel to guard the contested property, describing the act as an audacious misuse of authority.

“How can I sit as a minister when government officials are being attacked and beaten up, officials at the level of directors? And I’ll just sit in my office doing what?” Wike asked.

NIGERIA NEWS 247 reports that tensions escalated on Tuesday in the Gaduwa district when Wike and his entourage clashed with some soldiers over the disputed land.

According to the Minister, the retired naval officer was carrying out unauthorized construction on the property. The confrontation arose when Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) staff attempted to halt the development and were allegedly assaulted.

Wike condemned the use of military personnel to obstruct lawful government enforcement, calling it an unacceptable abuse of power that he could not ignore in his capacity as a public officer.
