The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the killing of three individuals in separate violent attacks in Patigi Local Government Area in the early hours of Tuesday, June 25, 2025.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the incidents occurred around 1:30 a.m. in Mari and Lile villages, both located within the Lade district of the LGA.

The victims were identified as Timothy Paul, a 35-year-old resident of Mari village, and 51-year-old Alhaji Abdullahi Shehu along with his 22-year-old son, Abdullahi Muhammad, from Lile village. All three were confirmed dead on arrival at a nearby medical facility.

Describing the attacks as “dastardly,” the police spokesperson said a full-scale investigation is underway to apprehend the perpetrators and uncover the motive behind the killings.

Further details from local sources, as reported by SaharaReporters, suggest that the attack in Lile village targeted the home of Alhaji Abdullahi Kpotun, a prominent businessman and ward leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Gunmen, believed to be bandits, stormed his residence in a failed abduction attempt and fatally shot both Kpotun and his son.

A local source told Nigeria News 247 that the attackers did not limit their violence to one household. “It was not only his family that the bandits attacked last night; they attacked another family and killed someone there too,” the source said.

The killings have sparked renewed concerns about rural insecurity in parts of Kwara State, especially in remote communities vulnerable to banditry and violent crime.

The police have assured the public that efforts are ongoing to track down the assailants and restore calm in the affected areas.
