Drama in Lagos! Police Accused of Freeing Foreigner in Child Defilement Case — Here’s the Truth
The Lagos State Police Command has refuted reports alleging that it attempted to release a foreign national accused of defiling eight children, describing the claims as false, misleading, and inaccurate.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebesin, clarified that the case is being handled by the Gender Unit with “utmost professionalism, diligence, and adherence to international best practices.”
“The Lagos State Police Command is not involved in any alleged attempt to release a Lebanese accused of defiling eight children. The story is inaccurate and misleading,” Adebesin stated.
According to the statement, investigations revealed that the suspect is not Lebanese but a citizen of one of the Southern African countries. The Command emphasized that officers trained in handling cases involving children and vulnerable persons are conducting the investigation in line with standard operating procedures for such sensitive matters.
The police also noted that both the child and her biological mother have provided statements confirming that the alleged victim was neither molested nor defiled by the suspect. However, the Command added that the father of the child, who occasionally has custody, filed a separate complaint that is being investigated to ensure fairness and prevent any miscarriage of justice.
“The outcome of the inquiry will be made public once concluded,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has ordered a discreet investigation into the media allegations, assuring that no stone will be left unturned in uncovering the truth.
The police also confirmed that the reporter behind the initial publication has been contacted and briefed on the ongoing investigative steps.
Reaffirming the Command’s confidence in the Officer-in-Charge of the Gender Unit, ACP Toyin Kazeem, CP Jimoh praised her professionalism and commitment. He noted that ACP Kazeem was on official duty in the United States attending the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) conference when the case was first reported.
“ACP Kazeem is a seasoned and highly professional officer whose leadership has brought pride to the Command and justice to many women and children across Lagos,” the Commissioner said.
The statement urged the public and media to remain confident in the Police’s dedication to justice, especially in matters involving minors and other vulnerable groups.
“The outcome of this case will be made public upon the conclusion of investigations,” the Command assured.
