The Kwara State Government has introduced enhanced security measures across schools in five local government areas as part of broader efforts to ensure the safety of students.

State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, announced the measures in a statement issued on Wednesday in Ilorin.

According to the statement, the directives take immediate effect in schools located in Ifelodun, Ekiti, Irepodun, Isin and Oke Ero LGAs.

The move, NIGERIA NEWS 247 reports, reflects the government’s determination to curb the activities of kidnappers who may attempt to use school children as shields while fleeing intensified security crackdowns. The commissioner added that boarding schools in Irepodun, which could be potential targets, are also covered by the newly activated measures.

He explained that the security measures may remain in force pending further clearance from security agencies, after which normal academic activities can resume.

This development comes on the heels of a recent attack in Kebbi State, where armed bandits invaded Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School and abducted 25 students. While three have managed to escape, the remaining students have yet to be rescued.
