The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested several suspects and recovered a variety of stolen items, including motorcycles, a car, iron rods, and illicit drugs, during recent operations across the state.

This was confirmed in a statement issued Thursday evening by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Shi’isu Lawan Adam, who highlighted the success of these operations, attributing them to timely intelligence, strong community support, and swift police response.

One of the key incidents occurred on June 15, 2025, when police received a tip-off from a Kazaure resident about a burglary involving the theft of two red motorcycles—a Daylong and a Boxer—from two separate homes. Officers from the Kazaure Division, assisted by neighborhood watch groups, acted promptly and recovered both motorcycles.

Just two days later, on June 17, security guards at a railway construction site in Kazaure alerted the police about suspicious activity. Officers intercepted a white Honda Accord (registration number KZR 626AA) loaded with 23 pieces of 45-inch iron rods valued at approximately ₦300,000. Of the five occupants, two suspects escaped while three were apprehended. Further investigation revealed that an employee of the company had conspired with the suspects. All four involved individuals are currently under investigation.

On June 20, another vehicle—a Honda Civic—was stolen from Yalwawa Car Wash. Acting on credible intelligence, police tracked the vehicle to Mechanic Village in Dutse, where they arrested 38-year-old Musbahu Yakubu of Jahun. He remains in custody, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further action.

On June 27, two residents of Kamai village in Miga LGA were ambushed and robbed of their red Boxer motorcycle at Rami Bush. A rapid response by police and Hantsu Security Watch led to the arrest of 17-year-old Haruna Adamu of the Kokosu Fulani settlement. The stolen motorcycle and the weapon used in the attack were recovered. Investigations are ongoing.

In a separate raid on June 28 at Gidan Ruwa Quarters in Kazaure, police arrested 28-year-old Shamsiyya Muhammad, who was allegedly recruiting women and youths into criminal activities while posing as a vulnerable widow. A search of her residence uncovered 18 sealed wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, along with other illicit substances. She is currently under investigation.

In another case, 25-year-old Ibrahim Musa from Hadejia LGA allegedly deceived a commercial motorcyclist into transporting him to Yalleman Town before fleeing with the motorcycle. Thanks to a quick alert from a fellow cyclist, residents gave chase and caught the suspect near Dakaiyawa Primary School. He was beaten by the crowd before being rescued by police, who took him for medical treatment and then into custody. The stolen motorcycle was recovered in good condition.

Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Murtala Tijjani, commended the dedication of officers and community vigilante groups for their collaboration and vigilance. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating crime through intelligence-led policing and rapid response.
