Police Kill Four Kidnappers Responsible for CEO Hope Georgewill’s Murder in Rivers State
Four individuals suspected of kidnapping and brutally murdering Hope Georgewill, the Chief Executive Officer of HMG Attitude Limited, have been killed in a police operation in Rivers State.
Georgewill was abducted along the Cotton Channel in Bakana, Rivers State, on March 26, along with two others. Despite his family reportedly paying a ransom of ₦2 million for his release, Georgewill was killed by the kidnappers. The Rivers State Police Command confirmed the details in a statement on Tuesday.
SP Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the police, stated, “The abduction of Mr. Hope Georgewill was carried out by a gang of sea pirates led by one Preye Ngian-Ngian, a native of Degema Local Government Area.”
After receiving the ransom, the gang killed Georgewill and dumped his body, which was later recovered and taken to the mortuary. Iringe-Koko added that the gang was known for several other kidnappings throughout the state and nearby regions.
In response to Georgewill’s murder, the police launched an intelligence-led investigation, which resulted in the arrest of two suspects. These suspects cooperated with the Anti-Cultism Unit, leading officers to the gang’s hideout in a creek off the Bonny waterways.
However, the operation quickly turned violent. “Upon arrival at the hideout, our officers were ambushed with heavy gunfire. The operatives responded swiftly, engaging in a shootout, during which two gang members were fatally shot. The rest of the gang members fled with gunshot wounds,” Iringe-Koko explained.
The two suspects who had assisted the police also attempted to flee amid the gunfire but were apprehended after being subdued, despite sustaining injuries.
“All four suspects, who were injured, were transported to the Police Clinic for emergency treatment but were unfortunately confirmed dead on arrival,” Iringe-Koko said.
From the scene, the police recovered several items, including a speedboat used in the gang’s operations, two outboard engines (80hp and 70hp), a live cartridge, various food supplies, and a mobile phone belonging to the late Georgewill.
The police spokesperson assured that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining members of the gang.
“The Rivers State Police Command is fully committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and visitors in the state,” Iringe-Koko concluded.
