NYSC to Corps Members: CDS and Biometric Suspension Remains in Effect
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has reaffirmed that its directive on the suspension of biometric clearance and Community Development Services (CDS) remains in effect.
This clarification comes in response to a circular circulating on social media, allegedly signed by the NYSC Director-General. The NYSC dismissed the circular as a fabrication, existing only in the imagination of what it called unpatriotic individuals responsible for its creation.
The NYSC expressed concern over the spread of misleading information by certain mischievous individuals, describing it as a matter of grave concern.
In a statement signed by Eddy Megwa, Director of Information and Public Relations, the NYSC stated, “The Scheme is determined to unmask and take appropriate action against these perpetrators.”
The statement emphasized that no authentic circular from the NYSC has been or will ever be released through social media bloggers.
“For clarity, the NYSC’s directive on the suspension of biometric clearance and Community Development Services (CDS) still stands. Corps Members will be duly informed through official channels when the suspension is lifted,” the statement added.
The NYSC also reassured Corps Members that both the NYSC and the Federal Government remain fully committed to their welfare throughout their service year.
The statement noted that successive administrations have always ensured the inclusion of service Corps members in every wage review in the nation’s history, and this situation will be no different.
“While awaiting the Government’s pronouncement on the newly increased minimum wage, all Corps Members are warned not to be instigated into any form of protest, as it would be a violation of the oath they swore and the provisions of the NYSC Bye-laws.”
The NYSC further warned that it would not hesitate to enforce the NYSC Act and bye-laws against any Corps Member who takes the law into their own hands.
“Rest assured, a second will not be wasted in issuing and implementing any pronouncement once the scheme receives the go-ahead from the appropriate authorities on any review of your stipend,” the statement concluded.
