Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has directed the Bureau of Special Projects to conduct an integrity test on all buildings at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp in Ise/Orun Emure Ekiti.

Oyebanji issued the directive in Ado Ekiti on Monday during a meeting with members of the NYSC Governing Council, led by Ekiti State Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Gold Adedayo. This order follows the collapse of a bathroom wall, which injured two corps members on Friday. The test aims to determine the safety of the buildings for NYSC members.

Following the collapse, the governor ordered the construction of 45 units of toilets and bathrooms at the camp, with construction beginning on Monday morning. He also directed the state electricity board to provide solar-powered electricity at the camp.

“The first thing we have to do is conduct an integrity test on all the buildings in that camp. The outcome of the integrity test will guide the government’s further actions on the camp facilities to improve the overall living conditions,” said Oyebanji.

The integrity test will involve a thorough inspection of the camp’s structures to assess their durability and safety standards. Oyebanji emphasized the need for urgent infrastructure improvements at the NYSC camp and assured corps members of his administration’s continued support.

“My response to your request: some actions will be taken immediately. Regarding solar light, I will ask the people in charge of electricity to assess how we can implement it, and that will be done immediately,” he added.

NYSC State Coordinator, Alhaji Riko Shuaibu, thanked the governor for his commitment to the safety and welfare of the corps members and for approving the construction of 45 units of modern toilets and bathrooms. Shuaibu stated that the visit aimed to inform the governor of the challenges faced at the NYSC camp and to solicit state government intervention.
