Benue Gov, Alia Condemns Killings in Oju and Buruku, Orders Immediate Security Action
Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has strongly condemned the recent killing of two Igede youths along the Awajir-Oju road. According to security reports, the victims were attacked while riding a motorcycle from Oju.
In a separate but equally disturbing incident, Governor Alia also denounced an attack on Nyifon community in Mbaikyongo Ward of Buruku Local Government Area. The violence reportedly stemmed from a dispute linked to a boat mishap and was allegedly carried out by youths from the Mbayaka community in Kusuv, also within Buruku LGA.
“These incidents, occurring in different Local Government Areas, are deeply regrettable and unjustifiable,” Governor Alia said. “No individual or group has the right to invade another community or cause harm under any circumstances.”
The governor has directed security agencies to immediately collaborate with local traditional rulers and conduct coordinated operations in the affected areas. He issued a 48-hour ultimatum for the perpetrators to be identified, arrested, and brought to justice.
“Benue State is steadily achieving security stability, and I will not tolerate any actions that threaten the peace we are working hard to maintain,” he stated.
Governor Alia reassured citizens of his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property. He urged all communities to remain peaceful and cooperate fully with ongoing investigations.
