Police, Ondo Varsity Intensify Efforts to Rescue Kidnapped Official; Confirm One Released
The Ondo State Police Command has launched an intensive operation to rescue Omoniyi Eleyinmi, a staff member of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), who was kidnapped recently.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, informed Nigeria News 247 on Tuesday that one of the kidnapped victims has been rescued, while efforts continue to locate and free the remaining victim. The abduction occurred on Monday evening when the victims were traveling on a motorcycle from Akungba to Supare Akoko.
According to the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the kidnappers ambushed Eleyinmi at his residence, firing shots into the air before forcibly taking him away.
Due to the sensitive nature of the case, Ayanlade said vital details will be withheld for now but promised timely updates.
“They were on the bike when they were intercepted at Supare. One victim has been rescued and is currently being debriefed. We have deployed all necessary resources to secure the release of the other victim,” the PPRO stated.
In a related development, the AAUA management confirmed ongoing collaboration with the police. The university’s Public Relations Officer, Victor Akinpelumi, assured that authorities are working closely with law enforcement.
Meanwhile, a family source revealed that the kidnappers have yet to contact the victim’s family, who are currently distressed by the situation.
