Zamfara: Over 20 Villagers Drown Fleeing Bandit Attack

Over 20 people from Kali community in Gumi Local Government Area, Zamfara State, died while escaping a bandit attack when their boat capsized in a river, according to reports from NIGERIA NEWS 247.

A resident, who wished to remain anonymous, stated that the bandits arrived at the village around 1:00 pm last Sunday, forcing villagers to flee.

“The bandits, armed with sophisticated weapons, approached Kali village on motorcycles, prompting the villagers to escape for their safety,” he said.

The boat, overloaded with fleeing villagers, capsized in the Birnin Magaji River, resulting in the deaths of over 20 people. Five bodies were recovered at Falale River, four at Birnin Magaji River, and three at Gadar Gummi River.

He also mentioned that the bandits have been terrorizing the communities of Kwammaka, Kwammaka Jibi, Kwammaka Mai Katsina, Kallin, and Kazura, all within Gumi local government area.

The police have yet to release a statement regarding the incident.
