BREAKING: Sanusi II Reinstated as Kano Emir
NIGERIA NEWS 247 has confirmed that Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II has been reinstated as the Emir of Kano.
NIGERIA NEWS 247 has confirmed that Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II has been reinstated as the Emir of Kano.
Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II has reportedly been reinstated as the Emir of Kano following the resolution by the Kano State House of Assembly to dethrone the current Emir and dissolve the four new Emirates established under a controversial 2019 law.
While there has been no official announcement, reliable sources indicate that Sanusi II is set to return to Kano on Friday. It is understood that with the passage of the Bill, Sanusi’s reinstatement is automatic and awaiting only the Governor’s approval.
The restructuring of the Kano Emirate was viewed as a strategic move to reduce the authority of Emir Sanusi II, who had been openly critical of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje‘s administration.
By establishing new emirates, the power and influence of the old Kano Emirate Council were weakened. Following a session on Thursday, Lawan Hussaini Chediyar Yan Gurasa, the Majority Leader of the Kano State House of Assembly who proposed the Amendment Bill, informed reporters that the bill had been forwarded to the governor for approval.
With no active Emir in any of the five Emirates – Kano, Bichi, Gaya, Rano, and Karaye – under this new law, it is now within the governor’s authority to convene traditional kingmakers to select a new ruler.
Our correspondent also informs us that all the district leaders who were promoted or appointed under the old law that was revoked must now return to their former roles.
