Court Halts PDP Congress in Rivers, Restrains National Leaders
A Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt has issued a restraining order against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), its national chairman, national financial secretary, and national organising secretary. The order prohibits them from conducting the congress scheduled for July 27, 2024, in Rivers State.
Justice Sobere Hambo granted the order in response to an ex parte application filed by David Omereji, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area, and 10 others. The court also barred the defendants from conducting the congress at any other venue or date until the motion on notice already filed is resolved.
Furthermore, the court issued an interim injunction preventing the defendants, their agents, or representatives from making decisions or issuing directives to extend the tenure of the state, local government, and ward executives of the PDP.
