An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered the remand of a 34-year-old man, Emenike Agugwo, in a correctional facility for allegedly defiling a 16-year-old girl.

Agugwo, who resides in Agodo, Ikotun, Lagos, is charged with defilement. According to the Prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, the suspect committed the offense at approximately 7:30 p.m. on April 4 at Okesanya Street, Papa-Ajao, Lagos.

Iberedem stated that the suspect forcibly had sexual intercourse with the victim without her consent. The prosecutor noted that the offense contravenes Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubeinje, did not take Agugwo’s plea and ordered his remand in a correctional center. She adjourned the matter until June 26 for advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
