Edo CSOs Withdraw from #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria Protest
Several Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Edo have announced their withdrawal from the ongoing nationwide protest against government failures and hunger. Curtis Ugbebor, one of the protest leaders, explained at a press conference in Benin that the decision was based on an intelligence report and the need to reassess their strategy.
Ugbebor stated, “At this point, based on intelligence, the CSOs are withdrawing to re-strategize. This does not mean that Nigerians cannot continue to voice their concerns. We have made significant progress and communicated our demands, which we hope the government will address. This has been achieved without violence or property destruction.”
Emmanuel Ogude, another protest leader, called on the government to address hunger in the country and suggested that politicians should receive only the national minimum wage. He also demanded a rollback on electricity tariffs and fuel prices and called for immediate repairs of federal roads leading to Edo State.
Despite the CSOs’ withdrawal, protesters remained active at Ring Road, engaging in peaceful demonstrations and performances. Organizers expressed caution over a group that joined midway through the protest, ensuring the event remained peaceful.
Police and security forces were present to safeguard the protest and prevent disruptions. Meanwhile, businesses in Lagos Street and Oba Market resumed normal operations, with increased consumer activity.
