Electrocution Tragedy Strikes in Rivers State as Man Attempting Cable Theft Meets Fatal End

In the Mgboaba/NTA area of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, an unidentified young man’s attempt to steal an armoured cable from a transformer turned fatal when he was electrocuted during the act.

The incident occurred around 3 am on Thursday near a popular new generation church, coinciding with a blackout in the area. However, the man was trapped when the power supply was unexpectedly restored.

An eyewitness, speaking anonymously, described hearing a loud sound from the transformer as soon as the power resumed. Upon investigation in the morning, they discovered the severely burnt body of the individual, whose entire body was charred black.

Another eyewitness, identified as Chika, revealed that the deceased was a familiar figure in the area known for selling water to residents.

The police and officials from the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company removed the man’s remains after residents alerted them to the incident.

When contacted for comment, the spokesperson for the state police command, Superintendent of Police Grace Iringe-Koko, promised to provide information after consulting with the Divisional Police Officer.

However, as of the time of reporting, no response had been received.
