Families of Policemen Killed in Kano Crash Receive N10 Million Support from IG

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has announced a compensation of N10 million for each family of the police officers who tragically died in a motor accident in Kano State.

The incident, which occurred on the Zaria-Kano Expressway on September 24, 2024, claimed the lives of five officers and injured 11 as they were returning from election duties in Edo State.

In a statement released on Wednesday by Force Spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi, it was reported that eight injured officers have been discharged from the hospital, while three remain under care.

Egbetokun has approved N10 million each for the families of the deceased, N2 million for those still hospitalized, and N500,000 for those who have been discharged.

Adejobi stated, “The Inspector General of Police has sanctioned the immediate distribution of relief funds to the families affected by the tragic accident on September 24, 2024, while they were returning from the Edo Elections Special Duty to the Kano State Command.

“The accident, which took place along the Karfi Kura route, resulted in the loss of five officers and left 11 others hospitalized. Of those injured, eight have received treatment and been discharged, while three continue to receive care.

“In light of this heartbreaking event, the Inspector General has swiftly acted to provide support, approving N10 million for each family of the deceased to assist them during this challenging time.

“The IGP has also authorized N2 million for those still in treatment to ensure they receive adequate medical attention and N500,000 for those who have recovered and been discharged.”

Adejobi further mentioned that the IGP has committed to ongoing support for officers and their families as needed.

He emphasized, “The IGP reaffirms the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to assisting officers and their families during difficult times. He extends his deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and wishes a speedy recovery to those still in care.”
