The FCT Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has arrested a woman named Precious Yusuf for attempting to smuggle drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kuje, Abuja.

The Command Public Relations Officer, Mr. Samson Duza, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.

According to Duza, Yusuf entered the Kuje custodial center on Tuesday, July 9, disguised as a visitor to an inmate. During a routine search by officers, items suspected to be Indian hemp and other dangerous drugs concealed in food packs within a carton were discovered.

“The culprit confessed to having been sent to bring these items to an inmate of the custodial center,” he said.

Duza quoted the Controller of the FCT Command, Ibrahim Usman, as ordering that the suspect be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.

Usman warned drug traffickers against attempting to smuggle illicit substances into custodial centers under the guise of visits, stating that officers are vigilant and prepared to thwart such efforts.

He called on the general public and well-meaning Nigerians to support the Service in its reformatory efforts to keep society safe, assuring the public of the secure custody of those legally interned.
