Five Killed as Gunmen Attack Police Station in Ebonyi
The Ishieke Police Division in Ebonyi Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, was attacked by unknown gunmen on Wednesday night.
During the confrontation, police reportedly killed five of the assailants.
The incident began around 9:30 pm with heavy gunfire, forcing residents to take cover.
According to Mr. Tony Nwori, the gunmen arrived at the police station in two cars and started shooting randomly.
The gunmen exchanged fire with police officers on duty for over 30 minutes before other security forces arrived to assist.
Another source reported that the situation attracted more security operatives, including the Army, who came in large numbers to apprehend the attackers.
The source added, “They continued shooting randomly while moving towards Odomoke Ishieke market along Nwiboko Obodo road in Ebonyi Council Area.”
Efforts to get police confirmation were unsuccessful as Police Public Relations Officer Joshua Ukandu was unreachable and had not responded to text messages at the time of filing this report.
A viral video showed some of the suspected assailants shot dead.
