Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has granted clemency to six inmates serving various jail terms in the state’s correctional centres. The gesture was made in commemoration of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

The governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, announced the decision in a statement released on Wednesday. He explained that the pardon was granted following recommendations from the Adamawa State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy and after the inmates were found to have shown significant improvement in behaviour.

Quoting the governor, Wonosikou said: “In the exercise of my prerogative of mercy as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and in line with the recommendations of the Adamawa State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy, I have granted pardon to six persons who have served various jail terms and have significantly demonstrated good conduct over the years.”
