Kaduna State Approves N2.32bn for Pension, Gratuity, and Death Benefits

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has approved the disbursement of N2.321 billion to settle outstanding pension entitlements, gratuities, and death benefits for retirees and families of deceased civil servants across the state.

The approved funds cover both Accrued Rights under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) and benefits under the old Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS).

With this latest disbursement, Kaduna State has now paid a total of N6.678 billion in 2025 alone, and N13.5 billion since the beginning of Governor Sani’s administration two years ago.

In a statement, Commissioner for Information, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, reiterated the government’s commitment to the welfare of senior citizens, emphasizing that timely and regular payments are essential to easing the financial burdens faced by pensioners.

According to Ibrahim Balarabe, Executive Secretary of the Kaduna State Pension Bureau, the latest payment will benefit 661 retirees and families across both state and local government levels. A breakdown of the payment shows N1.736 billion allocated for Accrued Rights to 511 retirees under the CPS, while N585 million is earmarked for Gratuities and Death Benefits for 315 pensioners and next-of-kin under the DBS.

The Bureau further clarified that CPS beneficiaries will receive payments directly into their Retirement Savings Accounts (RSAs) through their Pension Fund Administrators, while those under the DBS will be contacted shortly for screening and verification prior to payment.
