Kano Auto Accident Leaves 25 Dead, 53 Injured: FRSC
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Kano Sector Command has confirmed the death of 25 travelers and the injury of 53 others in an early morning auto crash.
The incident occurred at Dangwaro International Market in Kano City.
The travelers were loaded in a trailer carrying cows en route from Maiduguri to the Southern part of Nigeria. The trailer collided with another vehicle and somersaulted.
FRSC Sector Commander Ibrahim Abdullahi confirmed the incident in a statement issued to newsmen on Monday in Kano.
He said the accident involved an IVECO trailer with registration number XA 311 ZB.
“We received a call at about 3:15 am on July 1, 2024. Upon receiving the information, we quickly dispatched our personnel and vehicle to the scene to rescue the victims at 3:30 am,” Abdullahi said.
The Sector Commander attributed the accident to excessive speed, dangerous driving, and overloading, which led to a loss of control.
During the rescue operation, items recovered included six motorcycles, ten mobile phones, goats, rams, maize, and N400,000. All recovered items are in police custody.
“All the victims were immediately conveyed to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital Kano for urgent medical attention. The doctors on duty confirmed 25 deaths among the victims,” he said.
Abdullahi warned motorists against the unsafe practice of transporting animals and goods along with human beings.
