Kwara Declares Monday a Public Holiday for Hijrah

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State has declared Monday, July 8, 2024, a public holiday in the state to mark the new Hijrah Year (Muharram) 1446.

Muharram is the first lunar month in the Islamic calendar.

In a statement released on Friday by his spokesman, Rafiu Ajakaye, it was noted that the first day of Muharram 1446 falls on Sunday, July 7, 2024, according to many calculations.

“The Governor acknowledges the mixed memories this occasion brings to Muslims annually and calls for deeper introspection on the community’s journey and its duty to be the light bearers for tolerance, mutual respect, and justice.”

The Governor extended his wishes for a blessed new Hijrah year and prayed for Allah’s blessings and goodness for the community.
