Millions of Naira Worth of Property Lost as Fire Destroys Shops in Ibadan
Properties worth millions of naira have been lost after a fire gutted parts of a shopping complex in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday at the Golab Shopping Complex, located at Redeem Junction in the Bembo area of Apata. Five shops on the top floor of the building were affected by the blaze.
Confirming the incident, Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, said no casualties were recorded. In a statement issued on Saturday, Akinwande explained that firefighters arrived promptly and contained the fire before it could spread to other sections of the complex.
“On arrival, we met five shops on the upper floor completely engulfed in flames. Firemen launched a coordinated attack and prevented the fire from extending to other parts of the building,” he said.
He added that the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, noting that an investigation is underway.
