One Dead as Police Rescue Five Kidnapping Victims in Kogi
Armed hoodlums fatally shot Iliyasu Abubakar in Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi State. According to a statement by the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Ovye Aya, the incident occurred on Friday when armed assailants arrived in an unregistered Golden Muzzle Camry and began shooting sporadically in the Ojode area, resulting in Abubakar’s death.
The police spokesperson added that another individual sustained a bullet wound to the right chest. “Immediately, the Divisional Police Officer of Ankpa Division, CSP Chikamnele Amaralam, mobilized his team to the scene and engaged the hoodlums, forcing them to flee and abandon one AK-47 rifle with breech number 354951 and two live rounds,” Aya said.
In a separate incident, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force attached to the Adogo Division, led by SP Yusuf Hantsi, and in collaboration with local vigilantes, rescued five kidnapped victims on Thursday, May 23, 2024. The victims had been abducted on May 17, 2024, while traveling along the Ajaokuta-Adogo road.
Aya detailed that the operatives combed the bush and invaded the kidnappers’ camp. The hoodlums engaged the team in a gun battle but, overwhelmed by the superior firepower, they abandoned their victims and fled. “All the victims were rescued unhurt,” Aya confirmed.
