Police Apprehend Trio Accused of Robbing and Assaulting DPO with Machete in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended three suspected armed robbers accused of assaulting Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Tokunbo Abaniwonda, with a machete.

Confirming the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed that the event occurred on April 9 around 11:00 p.m. during a sting operation at Otedola Bridge, Alausa Ikeja.

According to Hundeyin, while conducting operations on the bridge, a gang of three suspected armed robbers emerged from hiding and launched a sudden attack on the DPO with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons.

The suspects also allegedly made off with Abaniwonda’s Samsung S22 phone before fleeing to an undisclosed location.

Acting on intelligence gathered, the police anti-crime team swiftly moved to a hotel in Akute area of Ajuwon Ogun on April 13 around 10:00 a.m. and arrested a 29-year-old suspect, known as “THUG LIFE,” believed to be the ringleader. Another 25-year-old suspect was also apprehended at the hotel, and both were taken into custody for further investigation along with exhibits found in their possession.

Fpoliceurther inquiries revealed that the ring leader had been involved in robberies on Otedola Bridge for the past five years, consistently changing his accomplices for each operation.
