Three people died and 22 others were injured in two separate road accidents in Aagba and Sekona, Osun State, on Sunday.

Details about the Aagba accident remain unclear, but it involved a motorcycle carrying three passengers and a private car. The driver of the car reportedly fled the scene. The three deceased were all on the motorcycle.

The Public Relations Officer of the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kehinde Adeleke, confirmed the accident, stating that officers had visited the scene. “The accident involved a Toyota Camry and a motorcycle with plate number AKD 810 QX. In a separate incident in Sekona along the Osogbo-Gbongan expressway, 22 people sustained injuries. Adeleke provided further details: “The crash occurred when a Toyota Hummer bus veered off its lane and collided head-on with another vehicle. The bus driver reportedly fell asleep while driving.”

The victims included adult men, women, and children, all of whom sustained varying degrees of injuries. Three people in the Fiat van and 19 in the Toyota Hummer bus were injured. The injured were initially taken to Sekona Government Clinic for first aid and later moved to UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital for further treatment.

Osun NSCDC State Commandant, Dr. Michael Adaralewa, expressed concern over the number of auto crashes during the festive period. He urged the public to avoid reckless driving and to refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, emphasizing the need for caution and restraint on the roads.
