Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has responded to the Kano State government’s decision to reinstate his close friend, Muhammadu Sanusi II, as the Emir of Kano.

In 2020, Sanusi II was removed from his position by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s administration due to certain accusations.

NIGERIA NEWS 247 gathered that this incident seemed to cause tension between El-Rufai and Ganduje.

It is worth noting that following Emir Sanusi II’s removal from office in 2020 and his exile to Nasarawa State, the former Governor El-Rufai intervened to secure the release of his acquaintance from confinement in a North-Central state, facilitating their move to Lagos.

Four years later, Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State reinstated Sanusi II after the Kano State Emirates Law 2019 was repealed and the Kano Emirate Law 2024 was enacted by the State House of Assembly.

The decision was made to restore the prestige of the Kano Emirate to its pre-2019 era before it was divided into five Emirates.

Former Governor El-Rufai, who was in the United States at the time, reacted to this development by posting a cryptic message on his Facebook page on Friday night.

The post, titled Friday Reminder, included a quote from the Holy Qur’an stating: But they plan, and Allah plans. And Allah is the best of planners. (Holy Quran – Surah Al-Anfal 8:30).
