Anti-corruption Group asks EFCC to Probe Ex-Delta Gov Okowa
The anti-corruption organization, Network Against Corruption and Trafficking Initiative (NACAT), has urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to look into the petitions against former governors.
During a press conference in Abuja, Tega Oghenedoro, the executive director of investigation at NACAT, expressed disappointment over the lack of action on these petitions.
Oghenedoro highlighted that despite multiple complaints lodged against former Delta State governor Ifeanyi Okowa, the EFCC has not initiated an investigation or disclosed any findings. This inaction undermines the efforts and resources invested by those filing the petitions.
The group is perplexed by the lack of action from the EFCC and ICPC in investigating and prosecuting former Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, despite multiple petitions.
They have been submitting petitions for months, along with one from a statesman in Delta. The group believes that if the EFCC continues to ignore the corruption allegations against Okowa, then they should also let ex-governor Yahaya Bello go unpunished for his alleged N88 billion scandal.
This situation suggests a concerning relationship between the EFCC and ex-governors from the South South region, known as some of the biggest looters in Nigeria.
As a prominent anti-corruption organization in Nigeria, it would be a failure to overlook the rampant corruption and misuse of public funds by former governors without bringing it to light.
The group has meticulously examined various financial records of the state and presented their findings during a press briefing today.
