ASUU FUOYE Chapter Declares Indefinite Strike Over Unpaid Salaries
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has commenced an indefinite strike, demanding payment of outstanding salaries.
The industrial action was officially announced on Thursday in a letter addressed to the institution’s Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olubunmi Shittu. The letter, jointly signed by the ASUU-FUOYE branch Chairman, Dr. O. A. Fagbuagun, and Financial Secretary, Mr. Ngwu Benitho, stated that the strike will continue until all unpaid salaries are settled.
The union’s leadership noted that the strike aligns with the directive issued by the national ASUU body.
“The National Executive Council of ASUU has resolved that where academic staff salaries are not paid by the third day of a new month, the branch concerned must suspend academic activities until payment is made,” the statement read.
“In compliance with this directive, ASUU-FUOYE has proceeded on strike. The action is total, comprehensive, and indefinite, and will only be suspended upon payment of salaries.”
