The Benue State government plans to construct a new civil airport with international, domestic, and cargo terminals along the Makurdi–Gboko Road. The project will also include a 100-hectare export-import processing zone located opposite the airport site near Agasha junction.

Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Rev. Dr. Frederick Ikyaan, revealed that the land survey for the project is complete, and Governor Hyacinth Alia has ordered immediate commencement of construction work. The announcement came during a meeting with traditional rulers from Guma, Gboko, Gwer, and Tarka LGAs to ensure community involvement and smooth project implementation.

Traditional leaders expressed support for the development but urged fair compensation for affected communities. They praised Governor Alia for initiating what they called a landmark project and committed to cooperating with the government.
