The leadership of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has condemned the organizers and supporters of the “IgboMustGo” campaign in the South-West, calling for a referendum to determine the Igbo people’s exit from Nigeria.

They criticized the South-West authorities for dismissing the campaign and alleged that its sponsors might include high-ranking officials in Lagos State and the Federal Government. IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful stated that the Igbo are prepared to leave Nigeria, either peacefully through a democratic process or, if necessary, by other means. He urged the release of Nnamdi Kanu and a referendum for the Igbo people.

IPOB also warned against targeting the Igbo community, calling on international organizations to be aware of the threats against them. The statement followed a controversial post by LagosPedia on X (formerly Twitter), which called for the Igbo to vacate Lagos and the Southwest, prompting condemnation from Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
