Coastal Road will cost N4b per Km, To Be Completed In Eight Years – FG
Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, provided insights into the ambitious Lagos-Calabar coastal road construction during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief.
Umahi projected an eight-year timeline for the project, attributing each kilometer’s cost to N4 billion. Despite the hefty price tag, Umahi defended the government’s fiscal responsibility, comparing the project favorably to others in terms of cost-effectiveness.
Umahi acknowledged the potential fluctuation in costs but assured that measures were in place to mitigate such changes. He disclosed plans for tolling as a means of recouping the investment, outlining his strategy with detailed projections of vehicle traffic and toll charges.
Additionally, he highlighted the incorporation of security measures and essential facilities, such as restaurants and filling stations, at toll points along the route to enhance convenience and safety for travelers.
The minister’s comprehensive approach underscores the government’s commitment to infrastructure development while addressing concerns about the project’s financial feasibility.
By integrating revenue-generating mechanisms and prioritizing amenities for commuters, Umahi aims to ensure the long-term sustainability and success of the Lagos-Calabar coastal road initiative.
