Ebonyi Governor Condemns Killing of 13 Indigenes in Anambra, Demands Justice
Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has expressed profound shock and outrage over the brutal killing of 13 Ebonyi indigenes in Ogboji, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Describing the attack as both “barbaric” and a “direct assault on peace, unity, and the sanctity of human life,” Governor Nwifuru condemned the violence against law-abiding citizens who were reportedly attending a peaceful meeting when they were shot at close range.
In a statement released late Tuesday night by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Monday Uzor, and made available to journalists in Abakaliki, the governor lamented the senselessness of the act and called for immediate action.
Governor Nwifuru disclosed that he had already reached out to his Anambra State counterpart, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, urging for a swift, thorough, and transparent investigation into the tragic incident. He expressed confidence that the Anambra State Government, in collaboration with security agencies, would take urgent steps to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those responsible.
He warned that any delay or failure in pursuing justice could strain the cordial relationship between the two neighbouring states.
While awaiting the outcome of the investigation, the governor appealed to the people of Ebonyi State, especially the affected families and communities, to remain calm and avoid any retaliatory actions that might escalate the situation.
“This kind of barbarism has no place in a modern society,” he stated. “We will deploy every available resource to uncover those behind this heinous crime.”
Governor Nwifuru reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of Ebonyi citizens both within and outside the state. He also vowed to follow the case closely and ensure that justice is fully served, stressing that no individual, regardless of status, would be shielded from accountability.
