Ex-Imo Governor Ohakim Dismisses Rumors of Bid for Ohanaeze President-General
Former Imo State Governor Ikedi Ohakim has distanced himself from efforts to install him as the next President-General of the Igbo sociocultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
Ohakim stated that he currently has no interest in the presidency of Ohanaeze. In a signed statement, he emphasized his focus on organizing a fitting farewell for the late President-General, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, rather than on succession matters.
He called on those perpetuating false claims about his candidacy to stop spreading such misinformation. “I have been made aware of reports linking me to a movement for my installation as the next President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo. This has led to numerous inquiries from concerned Nigerians seeking clarification,” he said.
“I want to be clear: I am not aware of any plans for my election or appointment as President-General. No one has contacted me regarding this, and I have not expressed any interest in the position.”
Ohakim urged those spreading what he described as malicious rumors to refrain from politicizing the organization during this time of mourning. He stressed the importance of honoring Iwuanyanwu’s legacy, which fostered peace and unity within Ohanaeze and the broader Igbo community.
“I reiterate: I have no involvement in or interest in the Ohanaeze Ndigbo presidency at this time,” he concluded.
