Former Minister of Environment, Mrs. Lawrencia Mallam, has called for increased participation of women in politics, criticizing men for mismanaging the country and expressing concern over the alarming levels of public funds being looted.

Speaking on Sunday at a sensitization seminar organized by the Dignity of Women Commission at St. John’s Catholic Church in Kaduna, themed “Women Participation in Politics and Guide for Direction,” Mallam lamented that the current state of the nation has driven many youths into activities like trafficking, domestic abuse, and kidnapping.

She urged women to come out in large numbers to embrace political party policies and work together to build a better nation, emphasizing that the notion of politics being a “dirty game” is misleading.

“We are just beginning to understand the reality, and we must approach this with seriousness. With God’s help, we will succeed,” she said. “The economy is predominantly controlled by men, but we know that women are better managers. Look at how a woman can take a small amount of resources and efficiently care for her family.”

Mallam stressed the importance of women’s involvement in politics, noting that their voices are essential in parliament to challenge the ongoing corruption and decay.

Earlier, the chairperson of the Dignity of Women Commission, Mrs. Rose John Bagu, highlighted the need for women to strategically organize themselves across all political parties.
