The administration of President Bola Tinubu has stated that individuals who have been convicted of forging certificates, involved in drug offenses, or associated with cult activities are not qualified to participate in the federal government’s student loan program.

On Friday, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) shared in its official X platform’s frequently asked questions that individuals convicted of fraud, forgery, drug offenses, cultism, felony, or any dishonesty-related crimes would not be eligible for the student loan program.

Additionally, those with a history of defaulting on loans from licensed financial institutions or who have been caught submitting fraudulent documents or involved in exam malpractices leading to dismissal by educational institutions will also have their applications rejected.

NELFUND launched the initial phase of the student loan program on Friday, inviting students from federal institutions nationwide to apply. President Tinubu’s history is marked by instances of academic fraud, identity theft, and drug trafficking that unfolded around the 2023 presidential election, leading to legal battles from the election tribunal to the Supreme Court.

Despite compelling evidence of his questionable past, the Supreme Court upheld President Tinubu’s eligibility for presidential office.
