Gov Otti: We are Remodeling 170 Primary, 51 Secondary Schools to International Standard in Abia State

During this month’s media chat in Umuahia, Governor Otti highlighted the critical need to elevate Abia’s educational infrastructure to international standards. This initiative is designed to equip residents with the skills and knowledge required for success in the global marketplace.
The extensive renovation project targets schools across all 17 Local Government Areas of the State, aiming to enhance their physical structures and create conducive learning environments. Otti announced, Today (Monday), during our Executive Council meeting, we approved the remodeling and retrofitting of 170 primary schools and 51 secondary schools throughout the State.
By year’s end, every school will have undergone significant rehabilitation and retrofitting, resulting in noticeable improvements. Our goal is for each school in Abia to meet a specific standard. Beyond structural upgrades, we are also focusing on modernizing curricula to ensure our children receive education relevant to the 21st century.
Governor Otti announced plans for extensive infrastructure development alongside the school renovation project. The construction of the 30-kilometer Arochukwu Ndiokereke Ozu Abam road and the 11.5-kilometer Nunya Eluama Isuikwuato road is set to begin shortly.
Additionally, Governor Otti tackled other urgent matters, promising that efforts were in progress to permanently address the ongoing pension arrears issue. He also discussed plans to increase salaries for Abia workers in line with federal government wage awards.
In terms of agricultural initiatives, the Governor disclosed ongoing efforts to reclaim farm estates that are currently underutilized by private investors.
He stressed the importance of maximizing agricultural potential and ensuring that available lands are cultivated during the planting season. We are working tirelessly to ensure all state-available lands are cultivated this planting season, he stated.
There are numerous plantations we are still trying to disentangle from previous concessions granted by past governments to individuals who have not been utilizing them for planting. Over the past few months, we have been actively working on resolving these concessions, he added.
