Governors Legitimately Authorized to Negotiate Nnamdi Kanu’s Release, Says Ohanaeze, Dismissing Ekpa
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has advised South-East governors and other political leaders to disregard Simon Ekpa’s opposition to their planned negotiation for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s release.
Ekpa, self-proclaimed Prime Minister of the Biafra Government in Exile, recently stated that the governors lacked legitimacy to negotiate for Kanu’s freedom.
In a statement released to journalists on Thursday, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, urged the governors to proceed without hesitation and approach the Federal Government for Kanu’s release.
Okwu emphasized that the governors are the legitimate leaders of the zone and questioned Ekpa’s authority from Finland to question their legitimacy.
“It is baffling to hear Simon Ekpa claim the governors lack legitimacy. These leaders are elected representatives of the people. Does Ekpa, based in distant Finland, hold greater legitimacy?” Okwu queried.
He further questioned Ekpa’s motives, suggesting that Ekpa benefits from Kanu’s prolonged detention and does not work in the interest of the Igbo people but rather exploits the Biafra agitation for personal gain.
The Ohanaeze youths encouraged the governors to proceed with their plans and take every necessary step to ensure Kanu’s prompt release.
“They should not be swayed by Ekpa’s actions. We urge the governors and all South-East National Assembly members to unite and engage in constructive dialogue with the Federal Government.
“We are confident that the current administration will respond positively to their requests,” Okwu concluded.
