Activist lawyer Madubuachi Idam on Saturday urged presidential candidates to stop using electricity as a campaign promise. Idam made this remark while expressing frustration over the national grid’s collapse, which caused a nationwide blackout.

The NIGERIA NEWS 247 reported that Nigeria experienced a total blackout around 3 pm on Saturday. The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company later confirmed that bulk supply was partially restored by the Transmission Company of Nigeria around 6:54 pm on the same day.

In response to the situation, Idam criticized socio-political commentators Reno Omokri and Daniel Bwala for defending President Bola Tinubu despite the ongoing electricity issues.

Speaking with the NIGERIA NEWS 247, Idam said: “Once again, I hear the national grid has collapsed. It is evident that the grid has become increasingly unreliable under this administration.

“Worst of all, fuel scarcity is more severe now in Nigeria despite its high price. Unfortunately, President Tinubu’s supporters, Reno Omokri and Daniel Bwala, are fervently defending him on social media.

“I believe the next presidential aspirants in Nigeria should stop using electricity as a campaign promise, because the more they promise to improve electricity, the worse it gets.”
