INEC Clarifies CVR Exercise in Anambra is Solely for November Governorship Election
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the upcoming Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise starting July 8 in Anambra State is exclusively for the November 8 governorship election.
Elizabeth Agwu, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Anambra, made this clarification during a press briefing on Thursday in Awka.
She emphasized that the CVR will not apply to the Senate and House of Assembly bye-elections. The registration exercise for the governorship election will run from July 8 to July 17.
The daily registration sessions will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., including Saturdays but excluding Mondays. Agwu encouraged all eligible voters to come out in large numbers to either register for the first time or update their existing information.
“New registrations must be completed physically at designated INEC offices, while data revalidation or corrections can be done online. INEC will not accept any registration in absentia,” she explained.
She further warned that registrations submitted outside the designated hours will not be accepted, as the registration portal will close automatically at 3:00 p.m. daily.
Agwu also cautioned voters against paying for voter registration, labeling such acts as illegal, and urged residents to approach the exercise with seriousness.
Finally, she called on Anambra residents to participate actively in the registration and voting process to have a say in who leads the state.
