The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has clarified that it has not suspended the proposed delineation of wards in the Warri Federal Constituency, contrary to recent media reports.

The clarification comes following speculation that the Commission had halted the exercise, which stems from a Supreme Court judgment delivered on December 2, 2022.

In a statement issued on Monday and signed by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, INEC explained that the reports were based on a misquotation of one of its officials.

“The proposed delineation has not been suspended, and no final decision has been taken on the matter,” the statement affirmed.

INEC also noted that the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise is proceeding in all local government areas within the Warri Federal Constituency.

“We appeal to all parties involved in the matter to continue to maintain peace in the area,” the Commission added.
