INEC to Launch Nationwide Continuous Voter Registration Exercise Starting August 18, 2025
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the start of a nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise scheduled to commence on August 18, 2025. This initiative forms a key part of INEC’s preparations for the 2027 general elections, aiming to ensure all eligible Nigerian citizens can register to vote or update their existing voter information ahead of the polls.
The CVR will enable new voters to be added to the electoral register, while existing voters can update details such as changes of address or corrections to personal data. INEC officials highlighted that this exercise is critical to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy by expanding voter participation and improving the accuracy of the voter database.
To maximize accessibility, INEC will deploy mobile registration teams across all states, targeting remote and underserved communities. The commission will also employ advanced technology to streamline registration and verification processes, enhancing transparency and minimizing risks of electoral malpractice.
As Nigeria prepares for the 2027 elections, the Continuous Voter Registration exercise is widely viewed as an essential step toward credible, inclusive, and representative polls. INEC has called on political parties, civil society groups, and the public to actively support the registration drive, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to electoral integrity and citizen engagement.
