Kano Police Facilitate Peace Accord Ahead of State Constituency Elections

Ahead of the upcoming re-run and bye-elections in Kano State, the State Police Command has facilitated the signing of a peace accord by political parties and candidates to ensure a peaceful and violence-free process.

The elections, scheduled for Saturday, August 16, 2025, will be held in the Ghari/Tsanyawa and Bagwai/Shanono State Constituencies.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.

According to the statement, the peace meeting was convened to promote security and order throughout the electoral process.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, urged all stakeholders to abide by the terms of the agreement and conduct themselves within the bounds of the law.

“We expect every stakeholder to carry out campaigns and other electoral activities responsibly. Any act of lawlessness or violence will be met with swift and decisive action,” Bakori warned.

He assured voters that adequate police personnel would be deployed to safeguard lives and property during the elections.

“Our goal is to create a safe environment where everyone can exercise their right to vote without fear. We urge all political actors to collaborate with us to ensure a peaceful process,” the statement read.

The Command confirmed that the peace accord was signed by candidates and representatives of various political parties, committing to non-violence before, during, and after the polls.
