Kano State Govt Disburses Fifth batch of ₦5 Billion for Gratuities and Death Benefits
The Kano State Government has disbursed an additional ₦5 billion as the fifth installment of payments toward outstanding gratuities and death benefits owed to retired civil servants and the families of deceased workers.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf made the announcement on Wednesday during a symbolic cheque presentation ceremony held at the Government House. The latest payment is part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to gradually clear the backlog of entitlements, with a commitment to settle all dues before the end of the governor’s first term in 2027.
“Today, we are releasing ₦5 billion as the fifth tranche of pension-related payments. Over half of the 12,000 pensioners have now received their full benefits,” the governor stated through his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa.
Governor Yusuf expressed appreciation to pensioners for their patience and reassured them of his government’s dedication to resolving all outstanding payments.
Representing the Kano Emirates Council at the event, the Emir of Rano, Dr. Muhammad Isa Umaru, commended the administration’s efforts, noting that many pensioners had endured hardship in the past — with some reportedly paying bribes to access their entitlements.
The latest disbursement marks a significant step in the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of retired workers and ensuring transparency in the pension system.
